Sisters.

After Karys was born, I wanted Ari to meet her as soon as possible.  After all the work we had done getting things together for baby Karys, I couldn't wait til Ari finally got to meet her little sister.  

Ari was aware that she was going to be a big sister.  She was aware that baby Karys existed.  But I don't think she ever really knew what that would mean for her.  So their first meeting was very important to me.   Ari was going from only child to oldest child.  And try as we may, since her understanding was limited, we really didn't know how Ari would react when she saw her new sibling.  I am very happy to report that Arianna had instant love for her new sister.  

When Ari came to visit on Karys' birthday, Karys was laying in the hospital bassinet.  In hindsight, I think that was a good thing since she didn't come into the room seeing her Mahney and Da all hugged up on another child.  Ari was very serious coming in and when she saw Karys she wanted to hold her.  Since she's the youngest in all of the extended family, I was amazed that she knew about holding babies!  

So I had Ari sit next to me on the bed while her da picked up Karys and we let her hold her sister.  Ari was very happy.  She really liked her sister and held her for about 2-3 minutes. I was happy to see that she was not upset that her mahney and da were holding another child.  And when she wanted to hold Karys again, Ari was so cute, raising her arms up to her da so that he could give her the baby. If Karys fussed, Ari talked sweetly to her and shushed her and comforted her by lightly rubbing her.

I was wondering how Ari was going to react when she realized that her sister would be utilizing the goods. I found out when Karys cried because she wanted to eat. Ari wanted to offer her some juice!  (She's such a sweetertron!)  I thought, "Oh, this is going to be interesting" since like her big sister, Karys is going to be exclusively breastfed.  And we all know how much Ari LOVES the goods!

I explained to her that Karys couldn't have juice because she was just a baby.  I told her that Karys needed the goods.  And Ari was okay with that!  She actually asked Karys if she wanted the goods!  And Ari watched happily while Karys had sippertons from the goods! 

It seems to me that Ari is taking her big sister role very seriously!  I know the true test will come when we are home, back in familiar surroundings and back to regular life. But so far, things have been going very well.
